Organize Needlepoint Supplies

The Best Products

Organize your Tools

Having all your tools in one space makes your stitching so much easier.

If you need something portable or don't have many tools, try this Clear Pencil Case by Iris®. In the large space you can store your laying tool and scissors. In the smaller space, you can store needles and threaders.

You can also go with a metal pencil tin, like this Rectangle Tin Box-White - 7.75"X5"X1.75". I often decorate these with stickers.

For storing needled (if you don't have too many) try the LoRan Magnetic Needle Case. The magnet on one side means you can keep it close by.

If you want to separate the needles by size or have lots of needles, nothing beast using a pill box, such as this 4 Section Square Pill Box with Hinge

It is also nice to store your thumbtacks in something more permanent than the cards or flimsy boxes they come in. I use metal tins for this. This Large Candy Tin 3.75''X2.25''-Silver which is rectagular or Flat Round Tin 2''-Silver which is round. Both can be decorated with paint or stitching.

Organize Travel Stitching & Projects

Putting your projects and tools into bags and pouches makes it so easy to work on different projects, to take your stitching with you, and to keep everything for a project together.

My favorite bags are those that are heavy, zippered and clear. I like to have a variety of size to fit everything from my tool kit to a project on its stretcher bars. This set of Clear Mesh Packing Bags - Set of 4 by Lewis N. Clark does the trick, the smallest size will let you organize needlepoint supplies, while the other three are perfect for project storage.

For larger projects, this Alvin NBH2026 Mesh Bag W-handles is 20 x 26 (so it will hold most projects on stretcher bars and has a zipped pocket as well as handles.

LoRan also makes a clever item for tool storage for travel. The LoRan Running Stitch Organizer holds threads (on bobbins), needles and scissors in one compact unit. I have also used tins about the size for holding gift cards for tool storage on the go. You can decorate Tin Box A2 Size-White yourself. Just be sure to use smaqll scissors and something like the LoRan needle holder.

Organize your Ideas

To keep track of my ideas, I use three types of places to store them.

To draw needlepoint charts, I rely on graph paper.

To store all the stuff I cut out of magazines, I like blank books and double-sided tape.

And for all my ideas, I keep what I call a "Book of All Knowledge" that has project ideas, important information and notes.Since this is the book that comes with me it has to be sturdy. I have used composition books in the past (because they are sewn like books and have thicker paper) Sparco Products - Composition Book,16 lb.,80 Sheets,College Ruled,9-1/2 inch x6 inch ,WE - MFG Part: 69091 or REDIFORM OFFICE PRODUCTS - Chemistry Notebook, Ruled,60pg, 9-1/4 inch X7-1/2 inch ,Blue - MFG Part: 43571 will work. Right now I'm using a Moleskine cahier, like this one, which I have adapted to my own use. Moleskine Plain Cahier Black Journal Large.

In addition you might want to keep printed freebies and for those I use decorative file folders. Sheet protectors with pockets in a binder are great for thread and stitch samples.

Organize your Stash

Threads, canvases, UFOs, finished projects, magazines, and more all needs to be organized. These products will let you organize needlepoint supplies and stash quickly and effectively.

I like functional magazine holders to store magazines, stitch guides, charts and projects. The 3" size is the most flexible.

ESSELTE PENDAFLEX CORP. - Magazine Files,12-Magazine Capacity,3 inch x9-1/2 inch x12-1/2 inch ,Black - MFG Part: 24466

Don't forget labels to identify each file.

AVERY-DENNISON - Printer Labels, Shipping, 2-1/8 inch x3-1/2 inch , 130/PK White - MFG Part: 9173

To store canvases and finished projects, I like underbed storage boxes. I also put UFO's which I won't get to for awhile in them. This Canvas & Navy Underbed Chest by Richards Homewares has a clear top and handles to make it easy to access.

These AkroBins® Large Stacking Bins - Blue by Akro Mils® are great for thread storage because you can rearrange them and get the thread easily.

Clear Stackable File Boxes by Iris® like these are another great beat for flexible storage. I use them to store my works in progress. as extra file storage and for models.

If your stash is small or if you need to move it from room to room, consider 6 Drawer Mini Chest, or taboret. There is lots of space here and they are very useful.
