Needlepoint Techniques

Stumpwork, bargello, blackwork, pulled canvas, all these needlepoint techniques can seem baffling at first. But help is on the way!

I’ve tried, in 40 years of needlepointing, just about every technique out there. This part of All about Needlepoint is the place where I will share them with you.

There will be tutorials, articles, projects, and plenty of links for when you want to explore each technique further.

Some of them, like Bargello, began as needlepoint techniques and have expanded to other types of crafts. Others, like stumpwork, are most often used in other forms of embroidery but can be adapted to needlepoint.

Right now the techniques on my list to try include Hardanger on needlepoint canvas, adding fabric to the face of canvas, and some new dye techniques to color canvas as background.

By learning new techniques your needlepoint will become richer and a better expression of your vision and style. Let's explore them together.
